HEMA RESIDENCE

Located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, this south-facing residence is designed as a layered volume responding directly to climate and orientation. The built form uses deep projections and offset masses, creating shaded edges and controlled openings. The spatial quality is fluid and open, anchored by double-height volumes and a skylight that brings light deep into the plan.

The planning opens toward the south but filters heat through solid masses, rust-toned cladding, and recessed glazing. A continuous balcony with planters acts as a thermal buffer, while jaali panels and pergolas introduce filtered light and ventilation. Cross ventilation and stack effect are integrated through vertical voids and staggered openings, addressing heat and airflow while maintaining privacy.

Material expression is bold and minimal, combining textured stone-like cladding, smooth concrete, and plastered surfaces. The contrast between solid blocks and transparent edges defines the facade. The experience is calm yet dynamic—framed views, shaded terraces, and integrated landscape create a controlled connection to the outdoors with a strong architectural identity.
